Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday extended his condolences to the victims of the tragic chemical factory blast in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, which has claimed 34 lives so far.
Taking to social media platform X, Vijayan wrote, “Deeply saddened by the tragic chemical factory blast in Telangana. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those affected. Kerala stands in solidarity.”
The blast occurred on Monday at Sigachi Pharma Industries in the Pasamailaram Phase 1 area. Over a dozen workers were also injured, and rescue operations remain underway. A help desk has been set up at the site, and nine of the deceased have been identified.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund.
The PMO’s official X handle stated: “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana… May the injured recover soon.”
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also visited the site and extended his condolences.
In a post on X, the Telangana CMO said: “CM Revanth Reddy expressed his deepest condolences and prayers for the loved ones… He has instructed senior officials to mobilize all efforts for rescue and relief operations.”
To investigate the cause of the explosion and suggest preventive measures, CM Reddy has constituted a five-member high-powered committee. The panel includes:
- Chief Secretary
- Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management)
- Principal Secretary (Labour)
- Principal Secretary (Health)
- Additional DGP (Fire Services)
The committee has been tasked with submitting recommendations to avoid such industrial disasters in the future. The Chief Minister has also directed top officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured and assured the victims’ families of full state support.
